Why we draw joinery before we draw the kitchen

Cabinetry is usually specified last, against a room that has already been decided. That order is why so many kitchens have a filler panel where a cupboard should be.

We resolve the joinery early, in the same drawing set as the walls and services, so the carcass dimensions inform the room rather than apologising to it. Appliance clearances, socket positions and door swings all get settled while they are still cheap to move.

It costs a few extra days at drawing stage and it removes the entire category of problem that gets discovered on installation day.
